Reasons For Using Hybrid Grass

The greens are not “Astro-turf” or indoor-outdoor carpet from the 1970’s.  It’s a new generation turf that has been specially designed and drastically improved over the last few years.

The greens at Little Bear have as many blades of grass per inch as natural turf greens.  They are the same height and density.  It looks, feels, and plays like natural grass.  However the hybrid grass is stronger and more durable.  It does not have to be watered, never has to be fertilized, always looks good, and will never die.

The tips of the synthetic blades actually get bent-over which mimics bent grass greens.

(1) Beauty and Playability: The number one reason is the year-round beauty of the greens and tees.  On a busy course it is virtually impossible to keep regular greens and tees in country club condition.  This type of lastic grass eliminates dead spots, disease, weeds on the greens.  The speed of these greens can be controlled.  When speeded up they can mimic the high speed greens on the PGA tour.

(2) No Chemicals Needed: Thousands of pounds of chemicals are put on golf course greens and tees annually.  With heavy rains these chemicals are transferred to lakes and streams affecting the balance of nature and wildlife.  No need to fertilize hybrid greens and tees, making it much safer for the environment.

(3) Reduced Maintenance Costs:  Many golf courses, both public and private struggle with high maintenance expenses.  The upfront cost is huge; but there is no need to mow, irrigate or aerate the synthetic greens and tees.  This is a tremendous savings for golf clubs which reflects directly on the bottom line.

(4) Extends the Season: This new technology makes winter golf available and realistic in northern states.

(5) Cutting Edge of Technology: It is the wave of the future.  Materials have improved 500% over the last few years.  Some casual golfers have played the course and not even known that something was different.

(6) Realistic: When I saw a rabbit nibbling on it, I knew it was a good product.

After studying the products on the market and hearing the testimony from the PGA pros, we selected Infinity Sports.  With the information available to us, it was an obvious choice to use it at the Little Bear Golf Club.
